Description
- Summary
- - Monthly samples at five stations were taken from March 1989 to January 1992 along the coast of the Parco della Maremma, including the estuarine area in front of the Ombrone River. The main scope was to check the marine coastal ecosystem from the point of view of phytoplanktonic algae, comparing the present data to a previous data set collected in 1975-76. Much attention has been paid to the impact of the Ombrone River, whose plume influences the coast of the Park with its waste water discharge. The data set consists of monthly values of the measured parameters and constitutes a 3 year time series showing the seasonal cycle of phytoplankton and nutrients. Sampling at each station was performed at 0 and 2.5m in two stations, at 0, 2.5 and 5m in another two stations, and at 0, 2.5, 5, 10 and 15m in the last one. Measurements of hydrological parameters (T, O2, S, etc.) and underwater downwelling and upwelling irradiance were performed directly on board by multiparametric probe and light probe. Chlorophyll analysis was carried out by spectrofluorimetric and spectrophotometric methods (Jeffrey and Humphrey, 1975, Biochem. Physiol. Plant. 167: 191-194; Lorenzen, 1967, Limnol. Oceanogr. 12: 343-346). Nutrient analysis (NO2, NO3, PO4, SiOH4, NH3) was carried out according to the methods described by Strickland and Parsons, 1972 (Bull. Fish. Res. Bd. Can., 167).
