Description

Abstract
A crucial aspect for the development of the Blue economy in the Mediterranean region is related to maritime transport and logistics systems within ports. Safety of port activities is crucial because of the ever-increasing number and size of ships and must be as efficient as possible in order to keep up with the increasingly fierce competition from other ports in the Mediterranean Sea. Knowledge of weather and sea conditions is fundamental to ensure safety of port operations as they can alter the maneuverability of ships where space is limited. The objective of the SINAPSI project is to respond to the need of port operators to have access to near real-time data on weather and sea conditions in order to increase safety for navigation and maneuverability within ports. Information produced in the project has been made available to stakeholders (pilots, captains, Port and Maritime Authorities) through a dedicated ICT (information and communications technology) application. SINAPSI has also been integrating the monitoring network in the Interreg Italy-France cooperation area for the measurement of meteorological and marine parameters.
