European Directory of Marine Enviromental Data sets
The Marine Data Inventory maintained at OGS-NODC includes more than 280 Italian/Mediterranean marine datasets, collected by several Italian scientific laboratories. The inventory covers physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, biological oceanography, marine meteorology, hydrography, marine ecology and underwater acoustics.
The data sets inventoried have been collected worldwide since the beginning of the century. Their description include: observed parameters, instruments, data processing, geographical area and time period, availability and co-ordinate of the centre and the contact person. They are referenced with their respective format (e.g. digital databases or files, analogue records, paper charts, hard-copy tabulations, biological samples, etc.).
Here you have a complete datasets inventory.
How the datasets information is collected and/or updated?
First, the datasets reports are prepared by the chief scientists, and sistematically archived in the OGS-NODC database.
Your dataset has not be reported ? Any correction ?
Institutes can create their EDMED entries following the format and basic guidelines in the document:
How to prepare entries for EDMED - October 1999 (161 KB)
Instruction for collating EDMED entries - January 2000 (66 KB)
The EDMED forms are collated and maintained by the National Oceanographic Data Centres (NODCs)of the SeaDataNet network, who contact and communicate with institutes in their countries to gather and to ensure up-to-date information and inclusion fo important marine data sets.
